Long-Term Care Benefits

As a Veteran, you may be eligible for assisted living, residential, or home health care through VA. As you can imagine, this area of VA benefits is quite sought after by our veteran clients, so we’re briefly sharing some information that will help you better understand this area and the requirements.

This area is quite complex, to qualify, all must be true:

• –         You’re signed up for VA health care, and
• –         VA concludes that you need a specific service to help with your ongoing treatment and personal care, and
• –         The service (or space in the care setting) is available near you.

Please understand, not every veteran will qualify for these benefits, and not every veteran will be able to access these benefits.

In addition, there are roadblocks that could prevent you from qualifying for these benefits. For instance, some VA services are region-based, so they may not be offered near your specific area. Some states have national income requirements for veterans, if you surpass that threshold, assistance may be out of the cards.

Home of Heroes – A Splendid Little War

It has been said somewhere that “There has never been a good war or a bad peace.” War is a horrible human experience, disrupting harmony and taking the lives of young men and women before their time. The United States was conceived in revolution, tested in a great civil war, and tempered through its westward expansion by armed conflict.

In the Spring of 1898, the United States went to war with the empire of Spain. It was our Nation’s first major conflict since the Civil War and the first major foreign war in our Country’s brief history. It was a war for which the United States was unprepared militarily, but a war that had been looking for an excuse to happen for a century.

As a result of America’s brief, first major foreign war, the face of our country changed forever. Indeed, from the perspective of United States history, if ever there were a good war, it was the Spanish American War.

Shortly after hostilities ended in Cuba and the United States entered a period of negotiations for the peace treaty to end the war, John Milton Hay was appointed Secretary of State by President William McKinley. Years later when Theodore Roosevelt occupied the White House, Hay wrote the President about that war. In that letter, he summarized the conflict with a quote that came to be linked with the first war of American expansion beyond her borders. He called it:

“A Splendid Little War”
